Commissions, other incentives & conflicts of interest

For services in relation to loan products, insurance or KiwiSaver, commissions may be paid by the product provider as follows:

For personal insurances and mortgages, RSFA and the financial adviser will receive commissions from the insurance companies and lenders. If you decide to take out insurance or a mortgage, the insurer or lender will pay a commission to RSFA and your financial adviser. The amount of the commission is based on the amount of the annual premium or the amount of the loan, which can vary. The Kiwisaver company (“Generate”) we deal with exclusively pay upfront and ongoing trail commission based on the KiwiSaver fund value.

Commission:

Initial commission is based on a percentage of the value of your loan balance ranging from 0% to 0.85%; a percentage of the value of your insurance premiums ranging from 0% to 220%; a dollar amount depending on the size of your KiwiSaver contributions within the first 12 months from $40 to $240.

Ongoing commission is based on a percentage of the value of your outstanding loan amount or premiums, usually calculated at the end of each month in which you hold the loan ranging from 0.15% to 0.20%; or on renewal of insurance products ranging from 7.5% to 25%; or an amount equal to 0.25% per year of your KiwiSaver account balance ongoing.

Fees (finance related) are not charged for main bank loans unless we provide a consultancy service and are not paid a commission. We may charge fees for non-bank loans and we advise what fee is applicable for this work as early as practical in the process. Not all non-bank loans are fee-based and we will confirm this with you. Fees can range based on your individual requirements and the scenario presented.

Providers may change their commission structure from time to time and we will endeavour to update our site as and when this occurs.

Conflicts of interest (and how we manage them), and other incentives:

We are here for our clients and to advise you as best we can. Your interests are our priority, although we do have business relationships with product providers also. From time to time, we may receive a small gift from a product provider (such as a bottle of wine or events tickets).

To ensure our advisers prioritise our clients’ interests we follow an advice process that ensures our recommendations are made appropriately, based on clients’ goals and circumstances.

  • All our advisers undergo annual training about how to manage conflicts of interest.
  •  We maintain registers of conflicts of interests and the gifts and incentives we receive. These registers are monitored regularly, and additional training is provided as required.
  • We undertake an annual independent Compliance Assurance Review.
